Sita
Dr. Kondal Rao Velchala
SITA Sita was my classmate
Sita was my classmate.
Myself and Sita read the “New Ramayana”
Of Viswanatha Satyanarayana together.
After we finished reading
Looking into her bewildered eyes, I asked
“Sita !
You have now heard the entire Ramayana of Pouranic Age.
We have followed Rama through hills, valleys, rivers and rocks
Penetrating deep into the dense woods.
Seen Rama kill “Vali” slyly.
Ask Sita to pass through the “Test Fire’.
Having observed all these
Do you still wish to be such a Rama’s wife ?”
“Sita is the chastest of the chaste women
Symbolizing the very “Indian Womanhood”.
Would not any one consider it a boon to be born like her?
But even if I desire to be so born
I would not under any circumstances agree to be the wife of Rama,
Instead, I would rather prefer to be the wife of a “Rasika”
like Ravana
To change him an ‘Asura’ into a ‘Sura; with my power of love”. Said Sita.
“Oh ! Well said Sita ! Well said ! I exclaimed.
“O.K.
“But I was also wondering Pattabhi !
Whether you would also not like to be such a Sita’s husband Rama”?
She shot back.
“Oh ! What a question to ask,
When you wouldn’t like to be such a Rama’s wife,
How can I too agree to be such a Sita’s husband Rama?
I would rather prefer to be Ravana
To kiss you with ten mouths,
Sip you with twenty eyes,
enlock you with twenty hands”, I said.
Now Sita is my wife.
